Engines for games, cloud services, front-end tools and NoSQL databases can be greatly benefited by opening the source code of Chakra, Microsoft Edge’s Javascript engine.

As Bill Gates’ company announced in December 2015 in a report by the JSConfUS, Chakra, Microsoft Edge’s Javascript engine, has opened its source code for the world’s developers to embed in projects, innovate on top of and contribute back to.

In an open repository on GitHub, the code is available to build ChakraCore in Windows 7 SP1 or later with Visual Studio (either 2013 or 2015) with C++ support installed.

ChakraCore contains the basic components of Chakra, Windows JavaScript engine outperforms those of Google or Firefox and is responsible for many of the company’s products, besides having a pivotal role in its plans for the Xbox.

In the newly-created roadmap (you can view it here) the engine’s source code is being progressively opened and there are objectives including support for Node.js, among others. You can also make instant queries through Twitter account: @Chakra core.
